A panacea for El Capitan problems: applying the latest Combo updater Once, whenever things started going wrong and we didn’t have any better ideas, we would repair permissions. Thanks to El Capitan’s SIP – and the fact that this has not been of much help for some years – that is no longer available. The update includes a variety of important bug fixes, including resolutions to issues found with the original El Capitan installer, compatibility with Microsoft Office 2016, resolutions to various Mail issues, and the inclusion of over 150 new Emoji character icons, like a burrito, a taco, a middle finger gesture, and a unicorn head.

I installed El Capitan and since then my iMac won't start up - it hangs at the grey screen with Apple logo and loading bar. I have literally tried and researched everything;

Unplugged the computer and waited

Unplugged and held in the power button

Tried to start up in Safe mode - it won't

Tried the startup manager (Option key at startup)

Tried OS X Recovery mode (Cmd + R at start up)

Tried Cmd, option, P and R

Removed my extra ram and replaced it...

I know there is nothing wrong with my hardware as I did run the First Aid test and no errors were found - discs work perfectly. My thought is that it should be the OS that causes this as I had no errors beforehand.

I have read here that if I install the combo update, this might solve my issue. My question is: when will it be released?

I have made an appointment at my local Apple store but before then I want to try and solve this myself (I only have backups of my most important files, so if I can avoid erasing my disc, this would be awesome).
